Sweet and Sour Meatball Recipe

This sweet and sour meatball recipe goes in the crock pot.  Tasty and easy, what's not to love?

sweet and sour meatballs

There are lots of versions of this recipe floating around, and so I had to try it.  I combined and made slight modifications to it, and this was the result.  My husband and I enjoyed it very much!  My two boys were less enthusiastic, but they did eat it.  The verdict:  will most definitely make them again.

Serves 7-8

  • 2 pounds (32 oz) of frozen precooked meatballs (I bought a six pound bag at Sams Club and am saving the rest for next time.)
  • 1 20 oz can of chunk pineapple (when fresh pineapple is in season, I will certainly use fresh), reserve juice
  • 1 bell pepper, any color, chopped
  • 1 cup seasoned rice wine vinegar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

Put frozen meatballs in the crock pot.  Top with pineapple and chopped bell pepper.

In a bowl, combine reserved pineapple juice with the other ingredients.  Whisk together.  Pour over the top of the meatballs.

Cook on high for four hours.  If you need to go longer, simply set the the crock pot to low, and you'll have 6-7 hours.

Prepare some white rice according to package directions.  Serve these sweet and sour meatballs over the rice with a generous spoonful of sauce.  We loved it.
