Spicy Texas Trash

spicy texas trash recipe

Spicy Texas Trash is my mom's version of a snack mix or chex mix, but is so much better tasting that it puts the other mixes to shame. She makes a big batch of this every holiday season, and we snack on it all winter long. "Trash" is another one of our essential Christmas Appetizers.

Ingredients:

  • 1 package small pretzels
  • 1 box Rice Chex
  • 1 box Wheat Chex
  • 1 box Corn Chex
  • 1 box Cherios
  • 1 box Cheeze-its
  • 2 cans mixed nuts
  • 1 can cashews
  • 1 pound pecan halves

Directions:

Mix all ingredients (To do this we dump them in a kitchen garbage bag, unused, of course!) Place contents in 3 large roasting pans.

In a medium saucepan combine:

  • 2 1/2 cup Worcestershire
  • 1 cup Crisco oil
  • 6 tsp. garlic powder
  • 3 Tbs. crushed red pepper
  • 1 Tbs. garlic salt
  • 6 sticks of butter
  • 1/3 cup Accent
  • 1 small bottle Tabasco sauce (or you might want to use half)
  • 3 Tbs. seasoned salt

Directions:

Heat to boiling and pour over cereal. Bake 4-5 hours at 200

degrees (or until cereal is crispy), stirring every 30 minutes.

NOTE: Unless you have double ovens you will not be able to cook all of this at once. You can put put two in and the other pan later. Don't forget to stir!

This is great for gift giving at the holidays!
