English Toffee Recipe

Do you want everyone to think you're a great candy maker? This English Toffee Recipe is sure to do the trick! Make it for Valentine's Day or Christmas or ANY occasion!

You need:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 stick margarine (don't substitute)
  • 1 stick of butter (don't substitute)
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

Melt butter & margarine and sugar over medium heat in a heavy skillet. Stir continuously in the same direction with a wooden spoon until it turns a caramel color then add nuts and pour onto foil to cool. Score with a knife before it is completely set in order to break it into squares.

*Variation add milk chocolate chips after putting toffee on foil while it is still hot (the toffee will melt the chips and you can spread it around with a knife or spatula.) Score through chocolate and into toffee before completely cool, OR just break into random pieces!

Thanks Aunt Linda for the great recipe that is now one of our Christmas traditions.
