Bacon Fried Cabbage

bacon fried cabbage

I make the best bacon fried cabbage, thanks to some friends of my mom's who gave her this recipe. If you've ever wondered how to make delicious cabbage, this is it.

Ingredients:

  • whole head of cabbage (I use green) chopped into pieces
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 6 slices of bacon cut into 1 inch pieces
  • Lawry's Seasoning Salt
  • garlic powder

Directions:

You need a very large skillet for this. I use a "chicken frying pan" with deep sides.

First cook your bacon until almost done on medium heat, don't drain the pan, and then add your chopped onion. Saute the onion until it begins to brown.

Then add all of the cabbage into the bacon and onion mixture. The pan will be super full. Season it with an all over sprinkle of garlic powder and seasoning salt.

Cover with a lid and let it start to cook down. Check on it every couple minutes and toss to move the cabbage on bottom to the top, and top to bottom. Once it is all coated and beginning to wilt, just cook to desired level. Some people like their cabbage a bit more crunchy, and some a bit more soft. I like it either way, and don't think you can do this wrong!

This is a fantastic side dish recipe that I make frequently. I know you'll enjoy it too! I like to serve it with Parmesan Butter Pork Chops.
