Christmas Cookies

This makes a BIG batch of delicious Christmas Cookies! They've been in our family for more than 25 years, and this recipe is unlike any body else's that I've ever tried. Find some people to help you frost!

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups brown sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 3 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 8-10 cups flour

Directions:

Cream shortening, add sugar gradually. Beat till fluffy. Sift

flour and add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk.

Combine thoroughly. Add flour to make a stiff dough. Roll thin

and cut into shapes. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.

For frosting, mix 2 lb. powdered sugar with 1 tsp vanilla,

1 tsp. walnut flavoring, 2 Tbs. melted butter. Slowly add

evaporated milk (start with 1/2 of a 16 oz. can) and gradually

add more, stirring, until a creamy frosting consistency. After

mixing in a large bowl, divide into 4 small bowls and mix red,

blue, green, and yellow food coloring. Frost cookies, and add

sprinkles on top. Make sure you have family or friends to help

cut, bake, and decorate.
